Abstract: In chloralose-urethane anaesthetized male rats, 24 single units in the lumbar spinal cord which responded to testicular compression were recorded extracellularly with micropipettes. All responded to noxious testicular compression. In addition, 2 units responded to innocuous testicular compression, 10 to noxious cutaneous stimulation and 2 to innocuous warming of the skin. Five units out of 24 had long ascending projections.
