Abstract: This paper, analyses the properties of international standard serial number in terms of error detection, correction and the size of the code dictionary. Through weight check equation the ability of ISSN code to detect and correct errors is determined. The total number of code words is established by how many digits permute. By using permutation methods, the length of the ISSN dictionary is determined. ISSN detects errors but only corrects single and transposition errors.
