Abstract: The issue of alcohol and drug abuse has occupied the minds of many world leaders. Abuse of alcohol and drugs inhibits attainment of one’s full potential and remains a threat to national socio-economic development world over. In Kenya, the government has taken great steps on the war to clean up the country from drugs and illicit brews that destroy and kill both young and old. Despite the legislative attempts to curb drinking and drug abuse, Kenya is still facing a great threat from alcohol and drug abuse. According to the anti-drug agency in Kenya, the National Authority for Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA), many people in the country are addicted to alcohol and hard drugs. The paper reviews literature to interrogate some of the issues surrounding this claim and makes recommendations that could help the government cope with the numerous challenges in the war against drug and alcohol use and abuse.
