The aqueous extracts of A, setaceous and ( volkensii were screened for their phytochemical components and evaluated for antimicrobial activity against gram positive (S aureus and B. subtilis) and gram negative bacteria (P. aeruginosa, E. coli and S faecalis). In addition antifungal activity was tested against the fungus Candida albicans. The result revealed that the extracts contained saponins, tannins andflavonoids. Most of the aqueous extracts were demonstrated to be inactive against the tested microbes. Few of the extracts showed slight activity against B. subtilis, S aureus and P. aeruginosa.en_US
